Sliding Scale Membership

Climbing is for everyone.

It costs more and more to live in Victoria (we know!) and sometimes life circumstances mean regular climbing is out of reach for some people some of the time. To try to make a spot for everyone: we have student pricing, non-peak memberships (before 2pm and after 9pm), and super cheap Power Hour pricing ($13!!!) every day after 9pm.

We also work with some organizations and affinity groups in Victoria to bring climbing to New Canadians, First Nations and Indigenous peoples, the Queer community and other groups that need help overcoming systemic barriers.

Our Sliding Scale Membership is an individual offering with the goal of allowing access to climbing for individuals who right now can’t afford the cost of a regular membership, but would like to make climbing a bigger part of their life. We would like for as many people to have access to climbing as possible, and hope that this EFT membership will give that opportunity to folks who might otherwise not have it.

If you have never been to Crag X, please come and climb with us before applying for the SSM. If you do not know how to put on a harness, tie a figure eight or belay another climber, please learn (from us or others) before applying for a SSM. The SSM is for people who are sure they like climbing and are sure they want to climb at Crag X.

There are 15 memberships available at a time, so if you no longer need to pay sliding scale, we kindly ask that you open up the spot for someone who can use it. Plus, since the 15 spots are for climbers - come climbing! If you climb less than 5 times a month, consider freeing your spot up for someone who can!

None of these descriptions fit me exactly, I am somewhat in the middle. What should I choose?

  • We have a a few other stops on the sliding scale, choose the one that seems best for you.

I really can not afford to pay anything for climbing. I need more help than the Sliding Scale program offers.

  • We might be able to help. Email cronin@cragx.ca to start a conversation.
