Pandora Street

Air Quality and Ventilation

When people walk into Crag X for the first time, they almost always remark on how big it is inside and how bright and airy it feels. The light comes streaming in our three storey front glass wall. What about the fresh air?

When we were planning the move to Pandora, our goal was to bring the outdoors inside. We of course wanted great air-quality to be a central feature of the new space. So, we asked our engineer to design a HVAC system that has no recirculation of air whatsoever. Every 90-120 minutes all the air inside Crag X gets exchanged for fresh outdoor air.

Our original goal was to reduce chalk dust in the air and eliminate foot smells. As the air is pumped out of the building, a massive Heat Exchanger takes the heat from the inside air and transfers it to the outside air without any mixing of the two streams. (Never cross the streams) Our heating and cooling comes from electric powered heatpumps, which in BC means 90% renewably generated HVAC. (This is a huge change from our last building, which was propane heated)

As the nice weather starts to recede, we are glad to be able to offer our climbers a large, bright airy space with lots of fresh air and lots of space to enjoy keeping active with those in your bubble.

This thing is huge. Drew for scale.
