Spring Fling Comp Thing 2026

Spring Fling Comp Thing 2026
COMING soon

This year Spring Fling Comp Thing is a floral enduro comp celebrating the tenacity and
growth of Vancouver Island plant life as we make our way from winter to spring. Each climb
is weighted the exact same for a reason: while grades can be a reasonably useful benchmark for progress, it shouldn’t be the only one. Showing up and trying your hardest is a reward worth reaping. At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to get up on the wall on our own terms.

What you will need:
Your friends! You will be competing in teams of 4. We will have different teams—with adorable flower names—that you can join.

What you will do:
Project—then hopefully send—the new climbs set each week.
You can top rope or lead climb the routes. Both are weighted the same.

How it’s scored:
Each send is worth one (1) point. A send is a climb done from start to finish, no takes.
New routes come up each week. You then repeat them the following weeks for additional points.
May 2nd is Finals Day. You will have a chance to climb all 40 routes for an additional 40 points.

What to expect:

  • Week 1: 10 routes will be set. Try and send as many as you can. Each send is worth 1 point. By the end of the week, record your score out of 10.

  • Week 2: 10 new routes will be set for you to try and send; in addition, you can now go back to try and resend the first 10 routes from week 1 for a total of 20 possible points in Week 2.

  • Week 3: 10 new routes, but go back and resend as much as you can from week 1 and 2, for 30 possible points this week.

  • Week 4: 10 new routes, but go back and resend as much as you can from week 1, 2 and 3, for 40 possible points this week.

  • Finals Day (May 2nd): One-day only suffer fest. Try to send as many routes as you can in a single day for 40 additional points.

  • Submitting Scores: You will keep track of your own score on a paper scorecard throughout the comp. Score cards must be submitted before the deadline of 8pm on Saturday May 2nd in order to be counted.

  • On May 2nd, we will celebrate Finals Day with vendors and booths, a food truck, and a coffee stand set up at the gym for your enjoyment. Come in any time for one last chance at sending all 40 routes for an additional point each. Scores need to be submitted by 8PM on May 2nd. Once they are submitted, they cannot be changed. The winning team will be announced on Sunday after our scoring elves calculate the point totals.
