Equipment Report

Quick Tips:

  • Grigri stuck while lowering, This is nearly always caused by user error combined with an old rope.

  • Rope with bunched sheath, not a safety hazard, when we fix it we just cut off the end push the sheath along and trim it off the end.

  • Top rope captured eye carabiner with bit of a sticky gate, this is caused by wear and can be treated with cleaning. switch it out with a spare from the drawer.

  • Grigri with a broken lever spring, this device must be retired immediately. Swich out with a back up and fill out a report. if you are not able to replace the Grigri, then close the line.

  • Autobelay retraction, if the autobelay is retracting slowly but it is not leaving slack at the top, its ok, if its is producing slack or not retracting fully it must be closed.

Equipment Retirement/Quarantine Procedure:

If you find a Piece of equipment that is broken, or even if you are not sure if a piece of equipment is safe or functioning properly, then remove it from service and replace it with one of the replacement pieces from the desk. Rope off area if necessary.

Put a piece of tape on the Quarantined item and write the date, line, and your initials on it. Put it in the Rubbermaid bin on the bottom shelf under the harnesses.
